Awards Season Comes Early For Our G.R.A.C.E. Initiative Students

We have always believed that even a child born into injustice and the brothels of a red-light district could re-write their destiny and flourish if given the opportunity through education.

In the summer of 2020, the G.R.A.C.E. Initiative was birthed with the hopes of making that dream a reality. During that first year, with the financial support of a visionary grantor, we identified 22 children in need and selected a reputable private school that demonstrated the willingness to to go the extra mile in working with us to acclimate these first-time students among their more settled classmates.

While we were confident that these children would receive a quality education, we never would have imagined then that after only two years, we would be in the position to announce that several of our students supported by the G.R.A.C.E. Initiative were recently recognized at the school for the following achievements:

English Recitation Competition Awards

o 4th Grade G.R.A.C.E. Student: 1st Place

o 3rd Grade G.R.A.C.E. Student: 3rd Place

o 2nd Grade two G.R.A.C.E. Students: 2nd Place

o K (Age 5) G.R.A.C.E. Student: 3rd Place

Hindi Recitation Competition Awards

o 4th Grade G.R.A.C.E. Student: 2nd Place

o 3rd Grade G.R.A.C.E. Student: 1st Place

o 2nd Grade G.R.A.C.E. Student: 3rd Place

o 1st Grade G.R.A.C.E. Student: 3rd Place

Art Drawing Competition Awards

o 7 G.R.A.C.E. Students were recognized for various awards

We are extremely proud of all our students, as well as our staff whose persistent attention and care before and after school have proven instrumental in each child's development. Through our efforts to provide hope through education, we have also managed to heighten how these children experience being loved and valued.

Our dream - to provide this path of opportunity every year to every child in our program until they reach graduation - only burns brighter today in light of their accomplishments. Two years after launching the G.R.A.C.E. Initiative with 22 students and the financial support of one visionary grantor, today we support 108 students across preK-10th grade.  And it is our hope that together with the financial backing of more visionary supporters like you, we can sustain and empower this next generation.

Become an Embers Guardian

Embers is thrilled to announce a new sponsorship campaign called Embers Guardianship.

A recent analysis on education's impact on poverty by UNESCO’s Global Education Monitoring team shows that 420 million people - more than half of today's poor globally - could be lifted out of poverty if all adults completed secondary school. In South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa, that would represent an almost 2/3 reduction in poverty.

Today, only six countries account for more than one-third of all out-of-school children of primary age in the world.  Sadly, India is one of those six.

Our experience with the G.R.A.C.E. Initiative has in many ways confirmed the research - that continued academic support is one of the most sustainable ways to make a long-term impact to a child in poverty.  To ensure that we can provide this education every year, to every child in our program until they graduate, we invite you to become an Embers Guardian.

Your recurring monthly support will cover for one student:

Please join us and ensure that these children can continue to look ahead to a future where they will be free to flourish.  Thank you for your support!

By Embers Children Enjoy Summer Activities 05 Aug, 2022
Through your abundant love and generosity, Embers provides summer activities and outings where our children can play and explore away from the red-light area into which they were born. This year, they have visited a water park for the first time, participated in dance classes, and enrolled in a soccer camp. "The children in Turbhe live in an area fraught with danger," says Susanna Santosh, our Director of Education. "Their regular play area is a bare road or a mountain of rubble. Many kids just get shut up in the four walls of a tiny hut, locked in by parents who are protecting them from the harsh realities outside." Through Sahasee Embers Children's Center, we create space for them to enjoy their childhood in a safe environment – places where they can develop friendships, create, and be inspired. "The kids get to finally be kids," says Susanna. GIVE TODAY
